Sunday Best and All the Rest

   Hi everyone! I hope that your last week of August is going well and that the Lord is sustaining you through all the craziness of life. Now, if you've been following this blog for a while you know that I have a bit of an obsession with stripes and all shades blue-green. If you've been following it for a long while you may have also picked up on my affection for 1960's fashion. Today's outfit combines the two.

   Have you ever been trying to come up with an outfit and had a wardrobe epiphany? A burst of creative fashion genius? I had one a couple of days ago, and these are the results.

   Wow, we've already made it to the 1960's! This sixth decade of fashion that we've explored together is probably the most vibrant and varied we've seen thus far. If all you can think of are hippie clothes, scroll down and you'll see why I like this era! Subcultures, youth movements, and social reform defined the decade. With the changing times came new fashions. Upper class socialites, Mods, and Hippies all had their own distinctive look. What people wore was a reflection of how they viewed life in general.    A girl from the Mod culture might wear a brightly colored A-line dress and jacket with tall boots.   So much for getting two posts out this week! I have been terribly busy with other projects, such as getting things ready to send to the lady I illustrate for, and preparing b-day gifts for three of my friends. I'm here now though! :)   Today's outfit is centered around a new item of clothing. The friends who are always finding fun stuff for me and my mom are responsible for my now having this beautiful teal cashmere turtleneck! Not only is it in my favorite color family, but it is also one of the softest things I've felt.   Where I come from, costumes are a big deal. Since being in my teens, I've gone to way more events in costume than I ever did when I was little! My repertoire includes costume birthday parties, a ball, and a few medieval festivals. It's a good thing that I like fashion so much. ;)   In my area, we are blessed to have several consignment stores that have vintage clothing and costumes. I have never had to order a costume off of the internet. Not everyone has the advantage of great local stores, but with a little ingenuity, you can pull together a marvelous outfit for your next dress up event!           This was my costume for a nineteen twenties party. As this is my first post, I suppose that an apt way to begin would be to explain why I started this blog. :)  First of all, I greatly enjoy clothes. Putting together outfits is one of the ways I express my creativity. Lately, I've been wanting to share my hobby with others. Most girls want to wear cute clothes, but some don't know "wear" to start. A blog seemed like a splendid way to show others what I've found to work in the world of fashion. Also, I have pored over books about clothes and style. They are just so fun, that I thought I would try my hand at a similar, if smaller, endeavor. At the same time, another reason for starting this blog was to be different from other sources.
