Outfit & Thoughts || Hats Off // In His Image

Hello, readers! Before getting into this post I want to apologize for anyone who tried to comment on my blog last week and found their comment not showing up. I had the text set to white instead of black, so while you were able to leave a comment, it was impossible to read! This hiccup has been fixed. Also, if you ever need to find the sidebar, click on the three lines in the upper left corner. :) Now, onward!

Yesterday was one of those days in which I tried to make a certain item of clothing work and found that it just wasn't happening. The fact that I was having a hard time incorporating my beret was definitely not helpful. Finally, I set the skirt aside and pulled out last year's Christmas party dress, which has proved quite versatile. After adding a dainty pink cardigan, black tights, riding boots and the beloved beret I had myself a unique ensemble!

Last evening, my family and I just finished watching a movie based on a real-life mathematical genius. Isn't it amazing how some people are absolutely brilliant? Some are gifted with music, others with fine art, some with the written word, and others with math or science. Though not all of us could paint the Sistine Chapel or find a cure for a horrible disease, most humans do have some degree of talent.

In all of these things, we are stamped with the Creator's image. He has placed within us appreciation for the beauty and order within His universe, as well as a desire to imitate the self-expression and understand the complexity. Even if you don't believe that you have an ounce of talent, you know that you have enjoyed a well-written song or admired a lovely sunset. Most of us want not only to receive these delights, but take part in making them.

Those of  us who are in Christ should acknowledge that this "creating" desire comes from our Lord. Though our culture has a twisted view of arts and sciences, believers can know the truth. Edith Schaeffer said it as follows in The Hidden Art of Homemaking : "It is true that all men are created in the image of God, but Christians are supposed to be conscious of that fact, and being conscious of it should recognize the importance of living artistically, aesthetically, and creatively, as creative creatures of the Creator." Let us continue calculating, composing, experimenting, sculpting  and enjoying for His glory, awed that we are created in His image!

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:16
