Seaside Getaway

Hello all! I am here to share a little bit of fashion, scenery, and a brief updates this fine Tuesday evening. My parents and I went on a one-night trip out of town on Sunday, and I of course brought my camera. I hope you enjoy these scenes of the beautiful California coast.

Around lunchtime, we arrived in Crescent City. We dropped by Safeway to grab a bite to eat, then headed down an inland road. After stopping for a picnic lunch we arrived at a trail-head and enjoyed a short hike. Above you see a view of the creek where we sat (or photographed) for a bit.

That evening we enjoyed a pizza dinner and then enjoyed some coastal scenery. It was a beautiful time for taking photos! Fog prevented us from being able to see the sunset from our hotel room’s picture window that night, but I’m glad that we got to go to the beach at golden hour.
My outfit is comprised of a few familiar items in addition to a new peasant top. You see, my mom was sweet enough to go shopping for me the other day and found some great items! This floral top is one of them. It has a flowing shape, so I belted it and rolled up the sleeves. Worn in this manner, it looked better with my skirt.

The next morning saw us visiting a lighthouse. The white and red building is on an island not far from the shore;  the road to it is covered with water part of the time.  After visiting the lighthouse we visited a marine mammal rehabilitation center, ate lunch, and did some thrifting. Then we were back on the road!

Now for a bit of a life update in case you’re wondering why I’m always so busy (and not very good at commenting on blogs…). To begin with, I’m still up to the usual things, which include my childcare and housekeeping jobs, church, Bible and book studies, and volunteering at our local pregnancy care center. In addition to that I recently finished test-driving the curriculum for the Bible Bee, since I know the lady in charge of the curriculum the this year. That study (which was good, by the way!) took up a fair amount of time, and meant using the computer quite a bit. Attending jury duty for five nonconsecutive days took up some morning hours recently. To round it all off is the occasional social event or friend visit. And then there's eating, sleeping, and internet....

Enough about me...tell me about you!
Have you been on any out-of-town getaways this summer?
Have you ever done Bible Bee?
Been to jury duty?

Do you not fear Me?’ says the Lord.
‘Will you not tremble at My presence,
Who have placed the sand as the bound of the sea,
By a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it?
And though its waves toss to and fro,
Yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.
Jeremiah 5:22

  1. What a beautiful place! Hopefully someday I'll be able to see that side of the U.S. and the Pacific Ocean.

  3. Paige, these pictures are so lovely! It looks like the weather was perfect for an exploration day to the seaside. Have you ever seen the BBC Miniseries for Jane Austen's "Emma"? The one starring Romola Garai? If not, you should go watch it because the theme music for that series was playing in my mind as I saw these photos!

I am actually planning a trip to Michigan next week! I am so, so excited. My grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins all congregate at a beach house on Lake Michigan every summer and it's been a few years since I had the opportunity to join in on the family reunion.

I have NOT yet had the privilege of serving jury duty which I can't say that I'm too disappointed about that yet. :)

Oh, that sounds so fun! Enjoy your time.
Haha! It was an interesting experience but I'm not sad that I didn't get selected...or even questioned. ;)

  5. Enjoyed the photos! Looks like a lovely place for a getaway! That meal (fish or chicken?) with fries looks delicious! It sounds like you've been keeping pretty busy.

How did you like jury duty? I've seen it so often on tv shows, that I actually would like the opportunity to give it a try one of these days...hopefully there will not be someone like Lucy (in Here's Lucy) also serving on the jury to make it too interesting when/if I ever get the chance.

No, I've never done Bible Bee, but a few years back at some friends' party they had a Bible verse auction/recitation competition with delicious desserts as prizes. In the first round everyone dropped out relatively quickly and I was left competing against a boy who had the whole book of James(?) memorized and was just going verse after verse through one of the chapters. I did my best to put up a good fight, and since apparently the hosts didn't want to sit around the rest of the night listening to us they declared it a draw and we each got a prize. Unfortunately getting 1 prize disqualified us from the rest of the competition, and we weren't able to rake in the other deserts...argh! By the end of the auction people were getting desserts just for quoting 1 or 2 verses. Oh well, I think there is some Bible verse that does say something like "Thou shalt not covet"...and maybe another one advising against gluttony, so I won't hold any grudges about the rules. It was a lot of fun.

Thanks for posting the update on your recent activities! Always great to s̶t̶a̶l̶k̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ learn more about your life and what you've been up to! :) Take care!

    1. Thanks! It is a lovely place. And that is a meal of fish and chips! I put up food pictures with you in mind. ;)
Jury duty was actually quite interesting. The questioning is really interrogative, so that can be scary. I never had to do that though!
Well, that sounds like an exciting event! Too bad you didn't get to try for other desserts. But way to go knowing the Bible!
      Haha! You too.

  6. I've always walked past flowy tops in stores because I have no clue how to wear them with skirts, but I really like the way you styled your top! I'm going to have to try it sometime!

  10. I've never had jury duty... yet, but there's plenty of time. I'm so glad you got the time to go on a day trip. Sometimes you just have to get out of the daily routine in order to enjoy it once more!

  11. Lovely pictures! Your shirt is so pretty! I think floral prints are my favorite. I miss living near the ocean, I lived in a beach town until I was 9.
I just got back from being out of town visiting my parents!
I have never done a Bible Bee, which sounds like fun!
I have never done jury duty, which does not sound like fun at all.
