Beauty || Sunday Morning Hair

Hello all! Today's post is all about that one thing every woman struggles with - hair! One of my readers asked about ideas for Sunday morning hair. I know the feeling of rushed hair all too well (like today...), so I hope these tips help!

Prep Your Hair

Everyone has a different hair dynamic to work with. One key to hair success is to get it ready before beginning to style. Trial and error will help you determine the best products to suit your individual needs. Here's my personal routine:

My hair is very fine, and mainly wavy or curly with a more straight and extremely frizzy layer on top. I begin the day's hair care by combing out the night's tangles. Next is the wash - my shampoo and conditioner varies, but it's almost always a natural and sulfate-free option.

After washing my hair, I scrunch and pat it dry with on old t-shirt to avoid breaking and frizzing my hair. When I want to leave it down, I usually use a strong hold gel by Fructis. I will either scrunch the gel in my curls or run it through the top layer of my hair with my fingers. To avoid disturbing any curls, I use a wide-toothed comb for brushing, either when wet or after it dries. Occasionally, I use coconut oil to smooth flyaways. It remains frizzy most of the time, but in real life no one has perfect hair!

Busy Morning Ideas

Inside-Out French / Dutch Braid

This style might take a little bit of time to master, but is totally worth it. It's modern and you can play with many variations. Once your fingers get used to the motion, you can put it together quickly a few minutes before heading out the door!

To vary this look and get your hair completely up, loop the end into a bun at the nape of your neck and stick in a few hairpins. Check out a tutorial here, from when I was nineteen and had longer hair ;P. I also gave instruction on how to Dutch braid.

Inside-Out Side Ponytail

I have turned to this hairstyle when I need something ASAP. Make a loose off-center ponytail that will rest over your shoulder. Make an opening above the hairband and pull the end through. Tighten, and you're ready to go!

Messy French Braid

Source
This is one of the easiest hairstyles to put together. Keep your hair a little mussed, French braid it loosely, and pull it out a little more if it needs to be looser. Use hairspray to keep it from falling out.

Simple Gibson Tuck
A simple Gibson tuck is an elegant hairstyle that can be worn sleek or a bit messy. To me, that sounds like the perfect recipe for Sunday morning beauty!

Retro Ponytail

Putting an extra little pouf or wave on one or both sides of your part can take a simple ponytail to the next style level. Have fun with old-time inspiration!

I hope that these ideas help! In closing, I encourage you to learn basic braiding methods and to always remember that a small variation can go a long way. Happy hair styling!

  1. I really like how the inside out French/dutch braid looks. I wish I had longer length hair would definitely do that! The inside out pony tail is cute as well. Sure are a lot of creative ways to braid and style hair:) nice post. Have a great 4th of July! Stephanie

    1. Yes, it's funny how a small difference in hair length makes styles easier or harder! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the different 'dos. :) Thanks, I did. Hope you do too!

  2. I am not a hair person at all, but these look like fun and cute ideas! The most I ever do with my hair is put it in a simple pony tail. If I'm feeling extremely adventurous I might braid it, but that is a rare occurrence. It would be fun to learn some cute ways of putting up my hair though. (I think I've just always been too lazy in the past...since I lived with my sister who was all fashionista and would do my hair for me...)

  4. I cut my hair short this spring and I've been keeping it short this summer, so my hair is now almost shoulder length. This fall I will probably start to grow it out again, but I have to admit I love having a hair cut that is so easy to maintain, style quickly, and look professional on a daily basis.

Sometimes I miss long hair and I will probably inevitably grow my hair long again but man it sure has been fun having short hair again. :)

Thanks for sharing these tips Paige!

    1. I'm glad that you enjoy your short hair. It sounds so fun and looks really cute on you! :D I think I probably look better with longer hair but sometimes am tempted to chop it all off when it's being naughty! ;D
