Red Dress Sunday Best

Hello all! I'm still here! Saturday's post was missed due to the craziness of life and the fact that I had a little incident with my photographs (see below for the full story), but now I'm back on schedule! :)

Sunday Best in Hand-me-down

Image
Good evening, ladies! A busy week has begun again with all its flitting about and getting things accomplished. Did you have a restful Sunday? Mine was a foggy-turned-sunny day filled with going to church and attending a friend's goodbye party. Life never really stops being busy, but sometimes we need to take time out to rest, even if that means writing or reading a blog post.    Sunday's outfit featured one of those "new to me" items of clothing. My blouse was one that Mom had just handed down to me a few days before. Not only do I like its delicate pink color, but find it delightful that the shape of its sleeves reminds me of the 1940's! The simple black skirt and patent leather heels that I wore lent to the slightly retro feel. I kept it simple, with my only accessory being a slender faux leather watch. The result was a classy and uncomplicated church outfit. Blouse ~ Hand-me-down; Skirt ~ Thrifted; Shoes ~ Target ?; Watch ~ ...

Sunday Best - Resurrection Celebration!

Image
Hi all! I hope that you had a beautiful Resurrection celebration yesterday, whether it was busy or relaxed, at home or abroad. I had a full and enjoyable day spent at church and lunching with dear friends. The holiday is always meaningful when spent in fellowship with like-minded people. :)

Sunday Best in "New to Me" / Back on Schedule?

Image
Those of you who follow me may have noticed a sad lack in my posting last week. Alas, I wrote only one post instead of two! How could I have fallen down on the job? Well, okay, it's not the worst thing in the world. ;) All the same, it is a situation that I hope to remedy.    To start this week off on the right foot, I am sharing with you an outfit that I wore last Sunday. It was put together around the skirt, which is a recent second-hand find. The color, length and cut of this skirt is superb! On first seeing it, I felt doubtful of its worth. After trying it on, I knew it was for me.       The top I chose to wear is a favorite button up of mine. Its floral print includes blossoms in a similar shade of blue as the skirt. The color of the infinity scarf I wore was also a near match. For warmth, I added oatmeal tights that corresponded well with my blouse. To keep off the rain, I threw on my faithful beige blazer and shod...

Sunday Best in Black and Green

Image
Recently, I had the pleasure of buying a few new duds at a local consignment store. One of the items I bought was this lovely green blouse which I first wore this past Sunday. At Mom's suggestion, I paired it with my black pencil skirt (a good rule of thumb is to wear looser tops with straighter skirts and more fitted tops with flowing skirts). Then, I added my black oxfords and pearl necklace. I also tried a new style in my hair - it was probably the highest bun I've ever worn! A purple flower pin in my 'do finished my outfit and had me ready for church and a birthday party afterwards.      I don't know about you gals, but I've had quite the week! Yes, I say every week is a busy week, but it holds true every time! In addition to the usual events, the past few days have been filled with fun highlights that occur none to often. On Wednesday I ordered my long-awaited DSLR camera (prepare for better blog photos), and yesterday I e...

Sunday Best Retro

Image
For the first time, I am actually posting my Sunday best on Sunday Best and All the Rest! It's about time, eh? ;) Yesterday, I wore this retro inspired outfit to church ( though later I had to change for an ultimate Frisbee game). It was modeled after the demure, ladylike styles of the 1940's and 50's.     This entire outfit was actually built around a "new-to-me" pleated wool skirt. For only $5, I bought the Forever 21 piece from a friend who was selling it. My tank top, blouse, cardigan and belt are all from second hand stores. The only thing in my ensemble that was purchased brand new is the pair of leather heels!   At first, I was not going to include the belt in this outfit, but the colors seemed too bland. When I wear neutral colors, I often like to have a pop of color. This is when the belt often comes in handy. Here, it picked up on the red stripes in the skirt and tied the whole outfit together. ...
