Misc || A Hair-Raising Tale

Image
   Long time no see, eh readers? I have not forgotten you! Life is in full swing, and I confess that putting together blog posts isn't something I've put a lot of effort into lately. However, excuses are distasteful, so rather than making any more I shall just say that this evening I am content to be sharing a recent style adventure with you.

Beauty || Sunday Morning Hair

Image
   Hello all! Today's post is all about that one thing every woman struggles with - hair! One of my readers asked about ideas for Sunday morning hair. I know the feeling of rushed hair all too well (like today...), so I hope these tips help!

Something New

Image
   Well, so much for getting back on schedule *sheepish grin*. For varying reasons, I didn't get a post up this weekend. However, I am back and excited to share with you this November evening (or morning, for my friends across the globe :). This isn't exactly a fashion related post, but I do hope you will enjoy it! Without further ado...

Sunday Best in Princess Style

Image
   I'm probably one of the few twenty-or-so-years-old American girls who aren't into Disney Princesses. However, this doesn't mean I'm immune to finding the "princessy" elements in an outfit. I'm particularly thinking today's Sunday best. What kind of princess would I be in this? A modern day European highness? A lady trying to reinterpret Edwardian fashion? What do you think?

   Hello all! I'm sorry to be posting this a bit late -better late than never, you know. ;) Today, I am presenting a topic of interest to me, as well as a new outfit. Scroll on down - I hope you enjoy this post!

Chocolate & Mint

  How do you do, dear readers? This is the first time in a long time that I'm writing a post that includes outfit photos taken the day of posting....*gasp* Of course, you wouldn't have known about this not-so-dastardly deed if I hadn't told you. ;)

Hair Tutorial: Casual Gibson Tuck

Image
        Happy weekend folks! At long last, I have another hair tutorial for you. Allow me to introduce my own version of the popular Gibson (or Hairband) Tuck. I'm still perfecting it (though it's much easier with shorter hair!), and it's a little messier than the usual tuck, mainly because that's just the way my hair is. However, I like the part boho, part early 20th century look. It has old-fashioned charm, while still being casual. :)

Historical Fashion How-To: 1940's Formal

Image
   Greetings all! I hope you are having a restful Sunday. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this comeback post of Historical Fashion. My best friend had a mystery party that was set in the 1940's, and I'm here to show you what I wore and how I did my hair and makeup for this special event!

The Return of Awkward+ Awesome/ Shirt Dress! / Announcement

Image
  I must confess that though it is the weekend, this post was originally started on Monday. Yes, I've had a rather busy week, mainly centered on Vacation Bible School! Now, however, I'm enjoying a restful Saturday of blogging, Netflix, Pinterest, and hopefully, a walk. On to the Awk and Awes! VBS Snacks Awkward: * (More unpleasant than awkward) Getting bitten by mosquitoes on my front lawn. * Talking to friends and gesturing with my hand while holding a cup of juice. Needless to say, the juice ended up on the floor. * Having the memory of a goldfish sometimes. * Stepping on my dog. Jumping onto my bed and kicking the dog, who had made himself a nest in the covers. Poor creature. :P * Getting the addresses of the girls I counseled for, but forgetting to get their last names. Still works! Awesome: * Teaching and helping out at our church's Vacation Bible School!  * Attending a sweet wedding last weekend. * Having a girl's day out with three lovely lad...

Twisted Sides Bun Tutorial

Image
   Hello and happy weekend to you all! I hope that you have had a splendid first few days of 2014. My week has been spent in drawing, volunteering, studying God's word, watching movies and visiting with friends. :)    This evening, I am pleased to present my second hair tutorial! Tonight's updo is a simple bun with two twists of hair on each side of the head. Twisted hair is one of my favorite ways to add uncomplicated elegance to my hair. This style is tailor-made to my lengthy tresses, but there is no reason it shouldn't work with a shoulder-length cut. If your hair is any shorter, you may need to experiment with your own lovely variation. :)   1. I begin by twisting a section of hair from the top of my head on one side of my part. 2. When I've twisted enough of my hair, I pin the section in place in the center of my head 3 . I twist another section on the other side of my head, and pin it crisscr...

My first Hair Tutorial!

Image
  Though clothing is normally our first choice in how we present ourselves every day, hair is also an important factor of our daily routine. Each day's hair style (or non-style) shows others how much time, energy, and thought we put into our grooming that morning. It can communicate femininity, a care-free attitude, or no-nonsense approach. Our hair complements our clothes, and helps us when we are going for a specific look.   That being said, hair is not always the easiest thing to manage. Many girls (myself included) have trouble taming our locks. We get stuck in styles that we know how to do quickly. While having the ability to spend short amounts of time at the mirror can be a good thing, sometimes we get tired of looking the same way!   I usually wear my hair down, but for the past year or so I have been experimenting with putting it up more often. I am most definitely not an expert yet. There seem to be m...

Costumes

Image
  Where I come from, costumes are a big deal. Since being in my teens, I've gone to way more events in costume than I ever did when I was little! My repertoire includes costume birthday parties, a ball, and a few medieval festivals. It's a good thing that I like fashion so much. ;)   In my area, we are blessed to have several consignment stores that have vintage clothing and costumes. I have never had to order a costume off of the internet. Not everyone has the advantage of great local stores, but with a little ingenuity, you can pull together a marvelous outfit for your next dress up event!           This was my costume for a nineteen twenties party. I searched high and low for a drop-waist dress (that wasn't an eighties prom dress), but couldn't find what I was looking for. Enter this lacy black frock. It is more reminiscent of the thirties, but the handkerchief hemline was definitely popular in the tw...

Stripes and Blue

Image
   Lately I've been quite fond of greenish shades of blue. At a thrift store on our vacation, I bought a t-shirt in this color family; I believe it is somewhere between aqua and robin's egg blue. What do you think? In any case, it's a lovely, bright color!    One item in my closet that I like to pair with colors is my black and gray striped cotton skirt. I bought it earlier this year at a thrift store for $10, though I had just seen the same kind at Target a month or so before! It looks good with both warm and cool colors. Though I like the slightly asymmetrical design, it's too short for me to be comfortable wearing it without leggings.   A few days ago, I put the skirt, top, and leggings together. I decided that it was a good day to try putting one of my favorite scarves in my hair. After folding in the same way shown in the tutorial of my last post, I just tied it on! In keeping with the color scheme, I wore...
