Fashion Defined: A Matter of Shoes Part 1

Image
Oh, shoes! We girls seem to have no problem collecting footwear. There's a pair for every occasion in our lives, whether it's in our closet, our imagination, or on our pinboard. With all these shoes, there's plenty of room for confusing terms and styles; it's enough to make a gal's head spin! If you get online looking for a certain kind of heel, it might take you a while to find just what you're looking for. Knowing your shoe definitions will help you narrow down your search a lot faster, plus it's actually fun to learn (at least for me it is...;)!   Let's get started by making sure we know the basic parts of a shoe. This will help us to know the variations between different shoe styles. The upper is the top part of the shoe, while the sole is the bottom. The upper can be divided into several sections. The toe box covers the toes. The vamp is the part of the upper that goes from the toe box to front of the leg. The quarters refer to the bac

100th Post!

The day has finally come! I'm publishing the 100th post of Sunday Best and All the Rest! *cue confetti*  I could talk about all the hard work and dedication I put in to get to this point, but it was really more like a lot of fun and, yes, some frustration ("Why won't this picture fit!?" "I've been sitting here for ages...").   Also, I would have baked you cookies, but they are a bit difficult to share over the internet. Feel free to bake yourself some cookies courtesy of me. ;)   Instead of baked goods, I have a Q&A to share with you. Thank you to the gals who asked such intriguing questions. So, without further ado, I present to you...

A few months ago someone asked me to do a hair tutorial for a certain hairdo I posted. Now I'm finally getting around to it. Hanna, I hope you are out there reading this! My humblest apologies are due for taking so long.

Sunset Adventure Outfit / Persecution

Do you ever have one of those days where you just want to go out and do something out of the ordinary? It doesn't have to be anything too unusual, like bungee jumping or diving for oysters. It just has to be something beyond the normal obligations of life. There was an evening last week when I felt exactly this way. Dad was away at a meeting, so Mom and I headed out to the beach with my camera in tow, hoping to find adventure.

By way of introduction I offer you the pitiful statement that I forgot to write a new series. Yes, I forgot. I was even excited about it. But life waits for no woman, and it became so busy that the blog series went into a far recess of my mind. Then, a couple of days ago the realization hit me when I saw that a blogger I follow on Pinterest started a new fashion vocab board (if you're reading this, you know who you are and I thank you for unintentionally reminding me). I had completely spaced it on starting the series! In any case, it's starting today, and will hopefully be continued every other week. You have my permission to remind me if it's been a while. ;)

Sunday Best in Hand-me-down

Image
Good evening, ladies! A busy week has begun again with all its flitting about and getting things accomplished. Did you have a restful Sunday? Mine was a foggy-turned-sunny day filled with going to church and attending a friend's goodbye party. Life never really stops being busy, but sometimes we need to take time out to rest, even if that means writing or reading a blog post.    Sunday's outfit featured one of those "new to me" items of clothing. My blouse was one that Mom had just handed down to me a few days before. Not only do I like its delicate pink color, but find it delightful that the shape of its sleeves reminds me of the 1940's! The simple black skirt and patent leather heels that I wore lent to the slightly retro feel. I kept it simple, with my only accessory being a slender faux leather watch. The result was a classy and uncomplicated church outfit. Blouse ~ Hand-me-down; Skirt ~ Thrifted; Shoes ~ Target ?; Watch ~ Target

The Return of Awkward+ Awesome/ Shirt Dress! / Announcement

I must confess that though it is the weekend, this post was originally started on Monday. Yes, I've had a rather busy week, mainly centered on Vacation Bible School! Now, however, I'm enjoying a restful Saturday of blogging, Netflix, Pinterest, and hopefully, a walk. On to the Awk and Awes! VBS Snacks Awkward: * (More unpleasant than awkward) Getting bitten by mosquitoes on my front lawn. * Talking to friends and gesturing with my hand while holding a cup of juice. Needless to say, the juice ended up on the floor. * Having the memory of a goldfish sometimes. * Stepping on my dog. Jumping onto my bed and kicking the dog, who had made himself a nest in the covers. Poor creature. :P * Getting the addresses of the girls I counseled for, but forgetting to get their last names. Still works! Awesome: * Teaching and helping out at our church's Vacation Bible School!  * Attending a sweet wedding last weekend. * Having a girl's day out with three lovely lad

Can you believe it!? August first is already here! This year seems to be passing all too quickly. They say "time flies when you're having fun", so I must be enjoying life, right? In any case, having my busiest year yet is definitely making the days fly by with alacrity. :)
