Lifestyle || Bedroom Redecoration

Check out this amazing anchor lamp and coral-themed plate!
One's home decor is a reflection of who they are and what they most enjoy. A place of solace from the busy world, a bedroom is a place where we should feel relaxed and ready to take a nap or read for bit. Just over a month ago, I realized that my own room was looking a bit too juvenile. Thus began the fun project of redecorating my space with my favorite colors and themes. I hope you enjoy seeing the results and perhaps even pick up a few amateur decorating tips!

Coming up with a theme was easy. I am always drawn to nautical things, and combining maritime and beach motifs fell easily into place. My favorite blue-green shades were incorporated, with coral lending a feminine pop of color.

After some uncertainty one day at the mall, I settled on buying a fuzzy patterned blanket rather than a comforter. Around the same time, I got the coral blanket that has a similar feel. This ended up being more economical and seasonally practical than deciding on a comforter set. Meanwhile, Mom made a decorative pillow out of some fabric that I picked out.

While I bought many new items to spruce up my room, part of my redecorating process was rearranging things I already had and purging what I no longer wanted. For the display on my dresser, the turquoise jar and bottle were the only new pieces. Nearly everything else was a gift!

Most of the artwork on my wall is new, though I reused some old frames. Above my bed and over my dresser are two prints of my own photography. The reflection of boats at the marina is one of my favorite shots, and the driftwood frame perfectly fits the them. A flower photograph to the left of my dresser and a small grouping to its right incorporate more feminine themes. The "P" was a DIY project by Mom!

My curtains were another Mom-made addition. The fabric has a beach house feel, giving continuity to the color theme. The key-word of my original decor scheme was "Nantucket". The end result ended up combining East coast elements with tropical sunset colors, pirate ship treasures, and my own outdoorsy West coast flair.

My bookshelf is partially filled with books, while the top two shelves house my jewelry and a few decorations. This was one place where I went through my knick-knacks and decided what to donate or throw out. The starfish hanging above my bookshelf was a find from my trip out of town.

Take a look at my new anchor scarf - anchors are my weakness.
My snake-plant is a fabulous and grown-up addition to my room!

Here are the things I've learned about home decorating:

  • Look out for good deals, but don't be afraid of spending money to get what you really like.
  • Take time out to DIY your own decor (or have your resident seamstress do it ;)).
  • Get rid of extra clutter ASAP.
  • Recycle or rearrange items you already have.
  • One plant can change the whole room.
  • Pinterest for inspiration (here is my inspiration board).

That's an abalone shell!

I hope you've enjoyed taking a look at what I've been up to lately! Have you been doing any redecorating recently? Let me know in the comments below! :)

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

    1. Thank you for your sweet compliments. :) It was fun putting together a very "Paige" room. I'm glad you enjoyed the post.
I have had the plant for two weeks and it is surviving so far! I don't get direct light in my room so I needed something hearty. They say the worst thing to do is over water it.
