Retro Summer

There is a special kind of day that makes me feel like I've stepped back in time. Sometimes, a lazy golden summer day seems to transport me to a sunshiny afternoon in the 1950's. Summer in general has a nostalgic feeling about it, reminding me of summers past and childhood memories. At the same time, I blaze trails through new sunshiny afternoons, creating memories to look back on in the years to come.

This new dress of mine already holds a few memories. I bought it on a vacation last month with my parents and best friend. I remember trying it and the cardigan on in a consignment store dressing room with vintage tunes playing in the background. Perhaps the music helped along my impression the kind that a lady might wear in a summer of the 1950's or 60's.
In fact, this dress's retro appeal was one of the selling points for me. Its feminine shape, dainty floral print, and bit of tulle peeking out from the hemline has just the sort of  ladylike look I enjoy. The only thing I don't like about it is that the top of it is definitely beyond my standards for modesty. Coming to the rescue is a cardigan that matches the dress for utter cuteness, with its rows of ruffles and perfect length. I have already worn the dress and cardigan together twice, once for an outdoor birthday party and once for a wedding. I think they are a pair I will be calling on again and again!

Do you ever feel like a certain time of year or weather takes you back in time?
Do you like to go shopping when you're on vacation?

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the
upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
~Philippians 3:13-14

  2. Beautiful outfit! You look lovely in that dress! Also great Bible verse!
While I would rather do other things than shop while on vacation, I have found the places we have shopped on vacation very interesting--like grocery shopping at Amigos in Lubbock: all the signs in the aisles were in Spanish with English subtitles!
No particular time of year takes me back in time; but cleaning out my desk (As I recently have been doing) certainly does! I hope all your memories are fond ones! God bless!

  3. Stunning!! Such a beautiful dress, very flattering on you. The cold winter months takes me back to the mid 1800s, as I bundle up ever so much, and have layers upon layers to stay warm it reminds me of all the dense, thick clothing they wore. Thanks for sharing the bible verse, Philippians is one of my favorite books!

  4. How lovely Paige! I just love it when you find a fabulous dress while thrifting! I actually had a 50's shaped dress given to me last week! I am eagerly awaiting this coming weekend since it will be just daring for my friend's 16th. birthday celebration!

I was also wondering if you had remembered our Fashion Show we are putting on next week. This outfit would be so nice for our theme.
Are you still planning on your entry?

    love

I'm afraid I didn't have time to enter after all; I was too busy getting ready for summer camp. I hope it went/goes well though. I'll be sure to check!

  8. Hey Paige! Wow.....I missed your blog so much! My summer is extremely busy, and that is the reason why I took a painful break from my blog as well. But, I'm back! (Thought, I'd let you know....) and like always, you look so cute! Can't wait to get back on track with everything that is going on. (Is it too late for the Liebster Award?) :)
