Forest Fashion / Relationship #1

Good afternoon and happy Thanksgiving week readers! I hope you have something special planned for this Thursday, and if not, at least a plan of sitting down and thanking God for His lovingkindness. Today I would like to share with you an outfit and the #1 thing we can thank the Lord for!

This is an outfit born of trying to find something to go with the skirt, as well as trying to keep warm on a rainy day. A sweater and a giant lacy scarf (please excuse the appearance of its tag!) ended up being just the ticket for coziness. My color scheme was comprised of various neutrals and a soft green, which was just right for a photo shoot at the edge of the forest. A messy Gibson tuck and lace hairband (see tutorial here) completed the look and gave it a classy flair.

At the time of life that I'm a part of right now, relationships are on many young ladies' minds. Most Christian young women are specifically hoping to get married at some point, preferably sooner than later - I am no exception. Now, don't worry, I'm not about to give a talk on waiting on the Lord's timing for your husband or trusting in His plan (though both are good things). What I want to remind you of is that if you are a Christian, you are already in a very special relationship. That relationship is with Jesus.
My relationship with Jesus is something that affects every single part of my life and being. It's the relationship that has to do with something as big is my eternal destiny and as small as whether or not I type that witty, but possibly ill-meant comeback on Facebook. My relationship with Christ bears on every one of my other relationships. It also offers me a chance to experience peace, joy, and love like none of those other relationships can give me. It's a relationship in which even though I may completely ignore the other person for days and do my own thing, I can come back to Him and never get the cold shoulder. And yet, despite all of this, I too often don't appreciate or cultivate this relationship. Am I crazy or what?!
Something tells me I'm not alone in this predicament. The fleshly desires get in the way of all of us. As young women, good intentions like finding a godly husband distract us. We even get all wrapped up in things like our mission to assist others in straightening out their doctrine (yes, there is a time and place for this), forgetting the relationship behind Christianity. For those days when things are obstructing our view of Christ instead of point us toward Him, I would simply like to offer a few words of advice to you and to myself: Don't leave your first love. Let Him have your heart. Grow your relationship with Him and you will not be disappointed.

In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
1 John 4:19

  3. Love your outfit!
And you're so right, it's extremely important to focus on our #1 relationship first, before anything else. It's interesting, I was just thinking about how that verse in (I think it's proverbs?) where it says a threefold strand isn't easily broken-both strands have to entertwine themselves with the third, otherwise the rope falls apart!

  4. What a cute outfit! I like the colors :) I don't recognize where the shoot was taken, though. ;) Maybe we can discuss that later...

Thanks for the words of wisdom, too. They're really important to remember! It's difficult to grasp, but since Jesus is our ultimate and #1 love, even if we never get married (gasp, I know) he's still the only one we need.
