Autumn Horizons and Facial War

Good evening, readers! It has been a cool day in my corner of the world. The sky is foggy and the air dirty with the smoke of California's fires. There's soup on the stove and a scarf around my neck. It feels like autumn, though another month of summer has yet to be.

My bestie crashed my photoshoot! She's in heels okay? I'm still short.
Today's outfit was a bit warmer than what I've been wearing for much of the summer. I tucked a long-sleeved graphic tee into my navy skirt, and ended up layering with leggings and a coordinating scarf. The overall look is somewhat autumnal. More summery days may be on their way, but for now my clothes seem to be a preparation for the season to come.

I do not have perfect skin. It's not absolutely horrible, but I have more than the occasional little blemish. Acne attacks me with varying degrees of assault, but is never gone. I am in a bit of a war with it. My counter-attacks have been waged with many styles of weaponry. Some of my arsenal has been the usual fare, like salicylic acid, while other defenses have been of a homeopathic nature.

You see, I've put some weird stuff on my face, including the following:

  • Toothpaste (I think it's supposed to dry it out)
  • Green Clay (Making a mask out of this is actually helpful; Clay draws out  impurities.)
  • Red Clay (I've actually washed my face with this)
  • Honey (This is also helpful. Try to avoid ants when wearing it.)
  • Plain Greek Yogurt (Yes I have put food on my face)
  • An Aspirin Tablet (I only tried this once...it didn't work like Pinterest said.)
  • Tea Tree Oil (This can have a nice drying out effect. It does not smell like tea...)
  • Kokui Nut Oil (Who knew there was a thing called a Kokui nut?! It's better for sunburns.)
  • Ice Cubes (Rubbing an ice-cube on the spots is supposed to reduce inflammation. I don't recall being impressed by the results of rubbing water on my face.)

Remedies have met with various degrees of success, but none have eradicated the problem. An internal cleanse may or may not help, but things such as dairy keep this skinny girl alive. I just try not to overdo the unhelpful foods hope the antioxidants in dark chocolate cancel out the sugar and caffeine. Meanwhile, I attempt to amuse you with tales of my protest against pimples. You never know just what I'll try next...;)

Have you ever put anything weird on your face?
Do you like to use mainstream or homeopathic remedies?

  1. Baking soda is also great for facial cleansing. Love your skirt, Paige! The whole outfit is darling! :)

    1. Thanks for the tip! :) I've used it w/ lemon juice as a blackhead scrub, but supposedly I should try it with milk. Thanks so much Blaze Ann!

  2. I've tried lemon juice to get rid of freckles. As you can see it didn't work, lol

  4. I tried green clay, honey, toothpaste and aspirin too. I thought the clay was too drying, I didn't like the gooeyness of the honey and felt too weird about the toothpaste. I don't know if the aspirin really helped as I mixed it with my facial cleanser. It could have been the cleanser that did the job.

What really helped sort my face out was medication. It was many years ago and I no longer use medication for acne. I still get a pimple now and then but it is not as bad as it was before.

    1. Wow, you have tried a lot too! I can understand about the clay. My mom made a natural face powder using the red clay. My oily skin likes it, but Mom found it too drying.
It's great that you no longer have an acne problem! :D

    1. Thank you! :) Yes, it seems that many of us are! Yes, my best of all-natural recommendations would be the clay, honey, and tea tree oil.

  6. I am so excited for fall! We have had some cooler weather in Oklahoma for the past couple of days and it is making me want fall SO BADLY! I just want to wear scarves again. Speaking of which, that is a lovely scarf. :)

Annnd...unfortunately I relate all too well with your war on acne. You are not in this fight alone. I have never had terrible acne but every now and then my face puts up quite the resistance of blemishes. I do my best to keep the breakouts at bay with standard face wash and moisturizing every morning and evening.

You've inspired me...I might just have to write a face-care routine or testimonial on my blog now. ;)

    1. Haha, I know! Thank you. :)
Oh dear. Well, it /is/ good to know that I'm not alone. It's great that you keep it at bay most of the time though! I'm faithful with makeup removal/cleansing/toner/moisturizer...perhaps my skin would be worse without it!
Hehe, I'm glad to have inspired you. That would be an interesting post!

  7. You look lovely, Paige! The top and scarf are very pretty! I thought it was interesting that you listed dark chocolate as something that might be helpful. I don't have very many problems with acne, thankfully, but the past couple days have been worse than usual, so neat to see your post now.

    1. Thanks so much Bethany! :) Well, I'm not sure that it would really be helpful....but the real stuff does have antioxidants in it. ;)
Oh, it's good that you don't usually have a problem! I would indeed recommend trying some of the things I listed for this current breakout. Clay masks are my favorite, the honey seems helpful as well and tea tree oil is a good spot treatment. :)

  9. Oh, I love how you layered your outfit, Paige...so pretty! You do create the loveliest outfits, my friend!
And I too have put some odd things on my face...I do it quite regularly, in fact...smiles...
Bicarbonate of Soda slightly dissolved in a little water dabbed on a sore spot and left to on for 15 minutes helps to dry it out, while a face mask of egg white also works wonders...
These are another interesting few things one can use!

Hugs and blessings to you...sorry I have been somewhat of a terrible blogger and blog reader of late...I have been studying for my Learner's License - which I happily passed - and didn't have brain space to write!

  10. P.S. Another thing I have found to be extremely helpful throughout my teen years has been drinking water...lots of it! At least two to two and a half litres a day... And also keeping your sugar intake very low...in fact, sometimes cutting sugar right out of your diet works wonders...I am thankful I never had too much of a problem, but I must say, as I have gotten a bit older, I struggle more...
Ah...just one of those things I guess! :)
