Being in the Word || #3 Knowing the Truth

Hello friends! Are you ready for another installment of Being in the Word? Let's dig in!

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 NKJV

Truth is a rare commodity these days. We live in an era in which we are skeptical of everything, and often rightly so. However, those of us who trust in Christ have a Savior who is the personification of truth. We have been gifted with the words of truth and the Spirit of Truth (John 16:14) as our guide. This is the next reason to be in God's Word: we will know the truth.

The entirety of Your word is truth,

And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.
John 17:17 NKJV

Jesus echoed the Psalmist as He prayed to the Father for His disciples,"Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." (John 17:17). How easy it is for us to find truth! All we need to do is open our Bibles; if you are reading this on the internet right now, you could just as easily look up scripture on your browser.

Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks,
prominent women as well as men.
Acts 17:10-13 NKJV

If we take a look at the full chapter containing these verses, we will see that Paul and Silas came to Berea from Thessalonica. In Thessalonica, some came to belief, but there was opposition among the unbelieving Jews. Verse two tells us that had Paul reasoned out of the scriptures with them. Perhaps he did so again in Berea, as we see that the Bereans checked what he said against scripture. We must be faithful to do the same thing in our lives, seeing if our teachers and preachers line up with the Bible.

Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
And Your law is truth.
Psalm 119:142

If God's word is truth, how important it is to be in it daily. Of course, we often don't want to hear the truth. The flesh doesn't want to read about the need of continually putting off the flesh, living pure and unselfish lives, and loving others. Sometimes the truth hurts. How refreshing and life-giving it really is though. May the Lord give us a desire to push past the world's lies and seek His truth.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:31-33

We are human and we fail but God always lifts us back up and loves us anyway. He is truly amazing. God is GREAT! Thank you Paige for sharing this inspiring scripture;) Stephanie
