Stripes+Chevron / Make a Day

Since becoming a fashion blogger, I have definitely become braver in the world of clothes. For example, I've been mixing patterns that I wouldn't have before. This casual outfit from last week was a first time for me, as I paired pinstripes with a chevron pattern.

For a day of housework and baking, then having friends over for a game night, I put together a laid-back outfit. My t-shirt had tiny stripes, so its pattern didn't compete with the bolder print of my skirt. Turquoise tights pulled in the darker stripes of the top while my dark blue cardigan gave me another layer of warmth that kept with the cool color scheme.

Have you ever been down, then had something happen that turned your day or week around? That happened to me this week, which started with me feeling rather blue. A few days later, I noticed that my outlook on life had become more cheerful.

What had changed? Well, my blog post had received a lot of sweet comments, I went out to frozen yogurt with a long-time friend, I emailed back and forth with a new friend, and I got a haircut which friends complimented me on. My mom was sweet enough to give me the haircut, and we played games with my Dad in cozy autumn evenings. All the little things my friends and family (and some kind commenters on my blog who I don't know!) had done for me added up! Instead of feeling like nobody loved me, I felt like a lot of people loved me.

That got me to thinking that just maybe I should take more opportunities to make someone's day. So much of the time I don't take those moments the Lord has given me to make a bright spot in a friend's day. It could be something as small as liking their Facebook status or something more involved like spending a day doing what they like with them.

As Christians, we are told to encourage one another. I Thessalonians 5: 11 says "Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you are doing." Certainly, God wants us to rely on Him for joy and comfort, and to understand that people will fail us. At the same time, He wants His children to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2) and love one another (1 John 4:7). A big way that the Lord comforts us is through other people. So don't be afraid to receive encouragement and don't fail to give it. You never know what God may do through you

Have you ever been down and then been lifted up by something
another person said to or did for you?
Have you ever seen someone else down and seen a difference when you encouraged them?

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25
