Keeping it Real

Good morning, afternoon, or evening dear readers! Thanks for taking time out of your busy week to stop by my bit of the web. Welcome to my latest followers - thanks for joining! Today I have a "keeping it real" theme to present to you; I hope you will appreciate and relate to today's post. :)

If you haven't been following my blog for long, you may be under the impression that I never wear pants, but I actually wear jeans at least once a week. Yesterday was a casual day of running errands in which I paired my dark wash denim with a hi-lo graphic tee. A leather jacket kept me warm and classy, as did my boots. My outfit was simple, but still cute and stylish!

As you've probably noticed, bloggers can make life look pretty fabulous. My own experience tells me that the cute outfit photos and scripture-quoting devotionals I post can gloss over the other elements of my life. I just might look like I have it all together, but, well....I don't!

First of all, I don't always wear perfectly put together little outfits!I sometimes spend my hours scrubbing toilets and holding mucus-laden toddlers while wearing jeans and sneakers. Though what I feature on the blog is truly what I wear most of the time, there are days when I have to forgo the floral skirts and delicate belts. The graceful outfit photo poses are also only part of the story. I'm actually quite klutzy and have bad posture.

My spiritual life isn't always smooth sailing either. I have troubling disciplining myself to have quiet times. I can be proud, mean-spirited, rude, and depressed just as much or more so than the next person. By the grace of God, I'm growing in my relationship with Him and sometimes have encouraging things to share with you. I've still got plenty of room to spiritually mature though!

Because I'm naturally an introverted, private person, few people know about my failings and quirks. It is wise not to over-share, especially on the internet, where information is available to the world. At the same time, it is important for me to be down-to-earth about real life with others so that they feel that it's okay to be honest with me. Just now, you got a dose of me keeping it real with you. Now it's your turn to weigh in! :)

Does it come naturally to you to be down-to-earth with people in your life or do you tend to not share your struggles?
When do you think it is appropriate to you share and when is it not?

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble."
1 Peter 5:5

  1. Oh I'm with you on that, I would never think of cleaning bathrooms (my least favorite chore) with my skirts/dresses. Makes it harder and I would feel bad for them. Sometimes ya just need a good pair of sturdy jeans!
I appreciate your honesty and your outfit is so cute! Love the jacket.

    1. Yup, or if one doesn't wear pants, a hardy denim skirt or corduroy may come in handy!
      Thank you! :)

  2. It's so easy to assume fashion bloggers are always, well, fashionable! I end up wearing jeans with a sweater and Sperry's most days anyway! Blogging about real life styles is important to me, but I end up repeat items so often. :P Thanks for sharing the real look. :)

Yeah, I understand about repeat items! This is not actually my everyday look, but what I wear 1-3 days a week, depending on my jobs. :)

  3. Love the leather jacket!! And I really like the scenery in the last photo.

I just assume everyone is more-or-less as fallible as myself--it's pretty much something I take for granted.

I figure most people can guess I'm not absolutely perfect just from being around me...but...if they can't figure out I'm not always a complete angel, let's keep it a secret! ;)

That's a good view to have. It probably helps us to be more loving and sympathetic to others if we understand they are only human, as we are!

  5. Dear Paige, I read your lovely post this morning and just had to come back to comment because, oh! how you encouraged me, friend!
I am not perfect - I am a sinner saved by His wondrous grace!
And I am real - I love how you described youself on certain days and yes...I can so relate!
I think we as bloggers just love sharing the beautiful aspects of life but it is also important to establish that we are human too and fail many times!
I listened to a beautiful song this morning and the words were, ''Your Grace, Your Grace...I'm nothing without You''. Isn't that lovely?
May the Lord bless you Paige and thank you for your honesty!
    Hugs to you,
    Kelly-Anne

  7. Love seeing this casual outfit and a peek into your daily life. I think we have similar personalities. I definitley have maybe one or two people I will share my hardest struggles with. I try not to over share on the Internet, but I feel like if it's something that others may enjoy or be inspired by and doesn't give any private info, then it might be worth blogging about.

  8. Yes, sometimes blogging depicts a perfect lifestyle. We're not perfect, though! We're just human!
I'm glad you're 'keeping it real', so to speak. I wear jeans myself occasionally. (In fact, I'm wearing some right now!) They aren't my favorite thing to style/wear so I don't typically put them on my blog. Very nice outfit; I love it - especially that tee shirt!

Thank you! I was so happy to find a graphic shirt that said something cute and didn't involve Disney characters. ;)

  9. This is a lovely outfit, Paige! I don't see anything wrong with pulling on a pair of pants as long, of course, as it remains modest. :) Have a lovely rest of your week, sweetie!

  10. Thank you for "keeping it real", Paige! It is wonderful to hear that you want to share the struggles you have because it is very easy to read other blogger's posts and fell they have it all together. I know it's hard for me to open up and share the struggles with people. Most of the time it's because I like to keep people encouraged and happy. I feel like my "problems" would only bring them down. However sharing my struggles and how God has brought me through them is exactly what encourages a person!

    1. Thanks for your comment Sarah! :) It's great that you try to keep people encouraged! I agree with you about how telling people about how God helped us in our struggles can encourage them.
