Chambray Sunday // Awesome

Happy Tuesday all! What have you been up to this fine weekday? I spent the afternoon babysitting and am now finishing up this post before heading to a video Bible class with my parents.

I'll keep this outfit description brief because I wrote a devotional and don't want you to be reading all day. ;) This ensemble was put together for my guest post on Jill's blog about chambray (read it here). Following my Mom's suggestion, I layered my chambray button-up over one of my beloved dresses and was quite pleased with the result. A sparkly green and silver necklace added a modest amount of glitz, while boots kept the look casual.

Last night during my quiet time I was reading Isaiah 40 when I was struck with the greatness of God. Consider a few of the verses that I was reading:

"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand,
Measured heaven with a span
And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure?
Weighed the mountains in scales
And the hills in a balance?
Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord,
Or as His counselor has taught Him?
With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him,
And taught Him in the path of justice?
Who taught Him knowledge,
And showed Him the way of understanding?
Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket,
And are counted as the small dust on the scales;
Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing."
(Isaiah 40:12-15)

Stop for a moment and think about the how awesome God is - awesome isn't just "cool" but awesome is truly awe-inspiring.

If all the nations of the earth are a drop in the bucket, it would seem that you and I and our problems look awfully small next to God. We are tiny compared to His glory and majesty and power. How could someone so great care about someone so small? Why would they?

Jesus said "Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-31). This is comforting and exciting and humbling all at the same time. The Creator of the galaxies knows every single time a common bird falls to the ground. He says we are of much more value to Him then those birds. There is nothing that happens to you that God doesn't know or care about.

It doesn't end there though. He loves us so much that He sent His Son to pay for the sin that would send us into eternal punishment.  Now we who trust in Him can stand without shame, loved, and of value before the one who is able to weigh the mountains in scales. Now that is awesome.

What is man that You are mindful of him,

And the son of man that You visit him?
Psalm 8:4

I love the flowy dress/skirt and I really like the way you wore your necklace under the collar too. Great devotional thoughts as well. I love it when I'm reading the Bible and can feel the Holy Spirit there with me and I realize that God is opening my eyes and heart to something in His Word.
