Being In the Word || #1 Introduction

If you are a believer in Christ, you have most likely read the Bible. Perhaps you have read it in whole many times across the years. Maybe you  have a hard time reading even a Psalm a day. Your copy might be falling apart from frequent use. You might be a new believer, holding your first Bible, and unsure of where to begin. No matter who we are, we daily need the Word in our lives!

As the foundation book of our faith, the Bible is extremely important to Christians. However, there seems to be an epidemic of Biblical deficiency in the diet of modern believers. We're tired, lacking motivation, and desirous of entertainment, so we push our Bibles aside and fill our time with other things. Sisters and brothers, we need to stop!

In this post series, I will be sharing different reasons found in scripture for being in the Word. Reading and digging in to our Bibles is crucial for a healthy Christian walk. Through my studies, I have found several benefits to living a scripture-filled life which I will be sharing every one or two weeks.

To begin, I would like to tell you a little bit about the Bible study methods I use. For a few years, my family has been attending a fellowship group that encourages inductive study, which basically means that we use scripture to interpret scripture. The main tools we use for study are cross references, word studies (using either a Hebrew/Greek dictionary and concordance or the Blue Letter Bible site), inductive questions (asking a question about the passage and answering the question from the passage) and reading different literal translations. Over the course of this series,  I will share more about my favorite methods.

I hope that you and I will both be encouraged as we study about studying through this series. My plan is that each post will be a short, digestible nugget rather than a long essay...but maybe God has other plans! May the Lord draw nearer to us, as we draw nearer to Him.  :)

My eyes are awake through the night watches,

That I may meditate on Your word.
Psalm 119:148

  1. I am truly excited about this post! I love to read Psalm section and find that it relates to me and helps me with encouragement and love of God. I also read Portals of Prayer Daily Devotions that has a short story and then has you read a part of a scripture and Psalm that goes with the story for the day. I have also tried Sarah Young, Jesus Calling Devotion book. I have never studied the Bible it self so I am so looking forward to sharing this with you and getting a deeper understanding and feeling towards God this way. With much appreciation, Stephanie

    1. Thanks! :D Oh, that would be a great post! I think my favorites are Psalms, Romans, Galatians and Ephesians. Sadly, Paul's letters are sort of jumbled together in my brain.

  3. Looking forward to this series, Paige! My father taught me how to read from the Bible, and I finished my first time through it when I was 6. Ever since, we've read through the Bible once a year. It's food for our souls, and so full of wisdom!
