Vintage Magazines Part II

Fasten your time machine seat belts ... are you ready for the promised second part of me sharing my vintage magazines? We're going further back in history this time by delving into the 1940's! Enjoy the products, fashions, and products of the mid-late 40's, all from the comfort of your armchair.

LIFE; February 17, 1947

Here we have a smartly dressed lady in Forstmann wool.

Personally, I don't think the giant shredded wheat biscuits look appetizing. What think you?

Memories of the war were still very recent, and as you see above, were more than just memories.

Isn't this clever? A teenage designer figured out how to make clothes from army blankets. I'm not too sure about the safety pin closures though.

These cotton dresses are just beautiful.

This is the beginning of an article that contains several pictures of different nationalities represented in New York City.

We see here that Communism had become quite a concern by this time.

LIFE; August 5, 1946

There's nothing like a silver platter of bacon, right?!

Finally, we can know the secret to having beautiful hair - use a Jewelite brush!

Some things have been around for a long time!

Here is part of an article about the Trans-Siberian railway that alludes to tension with Russia.

This is so sad. :(

Last but not least, here is part of an article about a radio show in which children answered questions. I bet this was fun to listen to!

I hope that you enjoyed this second magazine journey into the "olden days"! :) If you didn't catch the first post, take a look at it here. Have a lovely rest of your week and come back again this weekend!

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

  1. Enjoyed all the photos and advertisements from the magazines! Thanks for sharing them. My dad told us about the giant shredded wheat biscuits he used to eat as a boy, so we kept an eye out in the stores until we found some that we could try. I think I like the modern bite-sized frosted shredded wheat better--nothing like a little sugar!

    1. Oh, that's funny! It sounds like I would prefer the mini-wheats if ever I tried the giant ones. My Mom said she ate them when she was a child too!

Yes, I do like the Reminisce magazines...though I may be the only young person at our library to check them out. Haha!

  3. Such fun! Funny how we each have shared along the lines of vintage magazines this week, eh? :) I too have a few Life copies from the 40's (mine are from 46 and earlier) and also just one from '64! Anndd, maybe one from the 50's, can't quite remember! :P

Thanks for sharing dear! The hairbrush and shredded wheat ads were delightful! Did you know that shredded wheat can still be bought in that form? We do buy it from time to time as it reminds my Mother of her childhood. And you know, it's not half bad! ;)

Thanks too for your feedback on my post from Monday. It's so neat to see what styles jump out at other people!

    1. Hi Cassie! Yes, I thought it was funny too! You should show us some of your magazines sometime.
Oh, neat! My Mom ate the shredded wheat biscuits as a child too, and said that she liked them. I think I'd need to try them to be convinced. :D
      You're welcome!
